This Week in the World Affairs Brief
TRUMP FINALLY REALIZES THAT XI JINPING ISN’T HIS FRIEND
Trump has long held onto the ego-centric illusion that only he possessed such personal rapport with the big 3 dictators of the world [Putin, Xi and Kim], that his influence could have prevented all previous wars and solve all current conflicts. Trump’s initial appearance of success in the Gaza peace deal (which won’t last in the long-term) has only reenforced Trump’s delusional self-image as the great “peacemaker of the world.” It was Vladimir Putin who first dashed Trump’s self-deception by fooling him in August into thinking Russia was a viable peace partner while promptly increasing his massive drone and bombing campaign against Ukrainian civilians and non-military infrastructure. This week, it was Xi Jinping’s turn to slap Trump in the face. After agreeing earlier this year with Trump’s trade representatives to free up rare earth mineral sales to the US in exchange for more favorable tariff rates, Xi shocked Trump this week by backtracking on that agreement and imposing even heavier restrictions rare earth mineral exports to all Western countries, including the US, to deprive all non-Chinese high-tech industries from these key rare minerals. Trump responded with threats of an additional 100% tariffs on all Chinese goods on top of current tariffs, which will hurt Chinese industries while dramatically increasing consumer prices here in the USA. “There was no impact to any movements and no individuals were present or involved at the location,” Guglielmi told Fox News, noting that Secret Service agents found the stand before the president was due to arrive in Palm Beach.
Though he may be unpopular with a particular strain of MAGA Republicans who put pure obedience to Trump above principles like limited government, fiscal responsibility, a non-interventionist foreign policy and fidelity to the Constitution, Massie has built a large national following of people who think he represents the conservative ideal. Trump's launch of the anti-Massie PAC has spurred those followers to open up their checkbooks, with Massie posting his best-ever fundraising quarter, racking up $768,000 from July to September.
Three other European officials briefed on the White House discussions confirmed that Trump had spent much of the meeting lecturing Zelenskyy, repeating Putin’s arguments about the conflict and urging him to accept the Russian proposal....Trump told Fox News on Sunday that he was confident about securing an end to the conflict, and added that Putin is “going to take something, he’s won certain property”.
Trump had given a strong hint on where he stands when just before the two leaders' working lunch when he declared he wants to resolve the war "without thinking about Tomahawks" and additionally that the weapon is one America "needs".
After 12 years, Beijing’s four major defenses against the Belt and Road “debt trap” argument are dispelled.
The 12th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (also called One Belt, One Road) was last month. Amid ongoing accusations that it is a debt trap, the Lowy Institute think tank reported that 75 developing nations now face severe debt crises driven by massive repayments to China.
Israel said it has begun renewed enforcement of the cease-fire after responding to Hamas’s anti-tank missile attack.

The protests’ official sponsors, or “partners,” include the American Civil Liberties Union, Human Rights Campaign, MoveOn.org, People for the American Way, and an array of labor unions, according to the website.
In recent years, however, another factor appears to have skewed the FBI data: the breakdown of law enforcement in this country. When people believe police won’t catch or prosecutors won’t punish criminals, they’re simply less likely to report crimes. Between 2010 and 2019, victims reported 63.3% of violent crimes to police. In the last three years, that number plummeted to 48.8%. Arrests fell as well—from 26.5% before COVID-19 to just 16.6% afterward.
Officials in several states boosted security ahead of today's 'peaceful' protests - with Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin activating the National Guard to support police "to help keep Virginians safe," and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordering state troopers and guard members to Austin - where he says an "antifa-linked" protest was about to go down.
Little do these white boomers know, the "No Kings" movement, supposedly against "kings and billionaires", is, in reality, funded by leftist billionaire kings themselves. In truth, No Kings is bankrolled by far-left foundations backed by the same billionaire class that has been waging a political war against President Trump since his first term. Essentially, one faction of billionaires hates another, so their woke non-profit soldiers create a front group, brand it "No Kings," and bankroll an army of paid protesters and unhinged left-wing activists. This is America in 2025: the permanent protest-industrial complex of hate and chaos, financed by the left.
Wen-Ti Sung, a fellow at the Atlantic Council's Global China Hub, has been quoted in US media as saying, "Xi is cleaning house for sure. The formal removal of He and Miao means he will get to appoint new members of the Central Military Commission - which has been virtually half empty since March - at the Plenum."
The removal of nine senior officers, including top commanders of key military units, highlights the potential instability of Xi’s rule.
Fresh violence has gripped Gaza City, where Hamas forces clashed with the powerful Doghmush clan in the Sabra neighborhood, leaving at least 27 dead in one of the bloodiest internal fights since Israeli troops pulled back. The skirmishes broke out Sunday amid accusations that the clan collaborated with Israel, sparking a brutal raid by Hamas militants.
The protests against federal immigration enforcement are scheduled in cities across Texas and the country on Saturday.
Russia in its latest salvo launched another major missile and drone attack on Ukraine, specifically targeting its energy grid, involving over 300 strike drones and 37 ballistic missiles.

One America News (OAN) was a significant network that did sign it.
According to the NY Times, the request for a Pentagon press badge went from signing one page of rules/policy to a whopping 21-pages detailing what reporters can and can't do:
The new rules codify sharp limitations on access and raise the prospect of punishment — including revocation of credentials — for simply requesting information on matters of public interest. Lawyers representing national news organizations have been negotiating for weeks with Pentagon officials over the strictures.
The Montana Supreme Court upheld the police's warrantless entry. Apparently, the government's "reasonable suspicion" that Treavor Case might need "help" was sufficient to justify an armed warrantless intrusion into his home. That standard is alarmingly low. The Fourth Amendment requires probable cause and judicial approval before government agents may enter a home. It does not permit entry based on a hunch.
And it was not as if obtaining a warrant would have been difficult. A recent Harvard Law Review study found that 93 percent of warrants are approved on first submission, often in less than three minutes. With modern technology, police can draft and submit warrant requests directly from their phones. The officers in Montana had nearly an hour to seek judicial approval. They chose not to.
Israel restricted aid into Gaza and kept the enclave’s border shut on Tuesday while re-emergent Hamas fighters demonstrated their grip by executing men in the street, darkening the outlook for U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war.

"Russian troops with concealed faces and unmarked uniforms have appeared at Estonia's border, echoing tactics used at Ukraine's borders in 2014," the same report claims. Estonian officials are hyping the as yet undefined threat as a "clear danger". But it does seem that someone on the Russian side was sending a 'message'.
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is pushing for mandatory nutrition education in medical schools, emphasizing its importance in preventing chronic diseases.

in 2012-13 the Obama administration helped its Sunni allies Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar provide arms to Syrian and non-Syrian armed groups to force President Bashar al-Assad out of power. And in 2013 the administration began to provide arms to what the CIA judged to be “relatively moderate” anti-Assad groups—meaning they incorporated various degrees of Islamic extremism.
That policy, ostensibly aimed at helping replace the Assad regime with a more democratic alternative, has actually helped build up al Qaeda’s Syrian franchise al Nusra Front into the dominant threat to Assad.
For many years during the height of the war in Syria, Russian jets pummeled the Al-Qaeda/Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) enclave of Idlib province. Even some US officials admitted it was the biggest single concentration of Al-Qaeda terrorists in the world (yet the CIA had a significant role in helping them oust it from government forces in the first place).
